Over £50,000 was raised in aid of industry charity Hospitality Action on Sunday 11th September at the charity’s seventh annual Polo Day. The event, which took place at Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire, was catered for by seven award-winning South West chefs, who have six Michelin stars between them.

  • Michael Bedford, The Calcot Collection
  • Martin Burge, Whatley Manor
  • Josh Eggleton, The Pony & Trap
  • Hywel Jones, Lucknam Park
  • Sam Moody, The Bath Priory
  • Richard Picard-Edwards, Lords of the Manor
  • Richard Bertinet, The Bertinet Kitchen and The Bertinet Bakery

The event began with a Taittinger Champagne and canapé reception on the lawns of the prestigious Beaufort Polo Club prior to the final of the Sidebottom Cup.

Guests then enjoyed an outstanding three-course lunch, which included dressed Cornish crab with violet artichoke, roasted crab mayonnaise and yuzu puree. Chef Richard Bertinet joined the day for the first time and rounded off proceedings with a delicious afternoon tea.

The Polo Day saw students from City of Bath College act as front of house staff and they were joined by service professionals from The Abbey Hotel, The Bath Priory, Calcot Manor, Lucknam Park, The Pig and Whatley Manor.

The event was attended by a number of well-known figures from the industry including Harry Murray MBE of Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa, Richard Ball, Executive Chairman of Calcot Hotels and Graham Grose, Director of Thurlestone Estates.

Event sponsor Simon Numphud FIH, Director of Sales at PSL said: “We’re delighted to support the Hospitality Action Polo Day. Everyone involved pulled together to make this the best event yet. From the delicious food prepared by some of the industry’s top names, right through to the polo itself, it was a wonderful day which PSL was honoured to be a part of.”

Penny Moore, chief executive, Hospitality Action, added: “Tickets to the Polo Day sold out almost instantly, a true testament to the hard work everyone puts in. We are indebted to all our event sponsors especially PSL The Food Professionals, Taittinger and Hatch Mansfield for the wines.”

“Special thanks also goes to Flying Fish Seafoods and Total Produce who have supported the event for a number of years and R&R Catering Hire for being so very generous. We’re set to spend a record breaking amount of money supporting those in need this year and it’s events such as this that enable us to do so.”
